Search definatly can get better
The only way to make search better is to make it work like humans think, I don't think in key words I think in terms of questions. A search engine needs to be able to properly interpret a question, and provide relevant results that anwser that question, and be dynamic enough to probe for more information if the initial question is too vague. Artificial intelligence will allow that to happen but not for quite sometime I'm sure.
