It Budgets

"when you take an IT budget, your real goal is to get things done."

That's a very shortsighted approach. You have to think a bit about the future. Like what is vendor lock-in is going to do to you in a few months or years as your needs and budgets change, or things like the vendor going out of business and leaving you with a closed source product with no support and no upgrades.

Even if for one reason or another a project ends up costing you a little bit more using open source products than it would with MS products, it may still be the right thing to do to go with the open source stuff as it allows you keep the flexibility and save you a bundle later.
