The exception is the lawyer comment. Lawyers wouldn't exist if it weren't for people requiring an intermediary. Anything used correctly is a good thing. Attorneys don't sue people. People sue People.

The comment below about the artist who survives off of live performances because he contract put her on the pointy end of a stick is the reason why attorney's exist and why people should self publish. If people like your music, it will be purchased, if they like is live, they'll surely like it recorded in a home studio... most live performances have the accoustics of a barn anyway.
