In a rare moment of mental clarity, Balmer
``Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has confessed the software giant's .Net strategy has come to a standstill, says he's accepted SQL Server's shortcomings and vowed to keep fighting search giant Google.''

succinctly summarized the state of affairs at MS....

I.E.,

1) .net is too hard for us to pull it off. It has all these complications and ramifications we never anticipated, and since we are not used to thinking much before designing something we are just letting it take ist own natural course.

2) Our SQL server still remains capable for workgroup scale projects. We don't have the brain power (although we have PLENTY of man-power and $$$$$) to conceive something better than Oracle's. We would just sit around and wait until mySQL catches up to enterprise level and we would then 'borrow' it.

3) Since most people are hearing the 'Google search' phrase over and over, we should also do PR campaign to associate the words 'search' and Microsoft together.

We sure have no much of a clue how to develop serious s/w but we have tons of $$$ and we can just etch our buzzwords on the braincvells that control purchases wink
