I agree it is a niche market, but one that employees 1 million people, has 60k-70k plants and generates $80+ billion each year in the US alone! We use large-format Xerox, IBM and other printers that are used by the US government and other businesses around the globe, so the equipment and software we use isn?t as hard to find in other operations as you may think. The specialized software is acquirable by any company ? it?s like iLife for the Mac, though not quite as affordable. happy The fact that we are one of the most efficiently run printing operations in the country is a testament to the good business decisions that the company has made in the past ? including technology decisions. They had MACs in the past ? there was obviously a good reason why they are gone now. In our division, there are only 20 computers in use for preparing books to send to the printers ? the rest are business (not publishing) computers.
Just wanted to give a bigger picture?

As far as the overall workflow, there probably is a Mac somewhere in there since the publications come from all sorts of sources.
