Where IBM and clones failed, Apple succeeded
IBM couldn't kill the Mac. IBM didn't innovate.
Clones couldn't kill the Mac. Cloners don't innovate.

Only Apple could kill the Mac. And they succeeded where IBM and cloners failed.

The people currently defending Macintosh don't remember what innovation is. It isn't adding a new case. It isn't being able to say, "see, we're just as good". It isn't faking speed tests to say, "see, we're faster". It isn't cobbling together 3rd Party architectures and saying, "see, nobody has this exact set of features". It isn't saying, "here's an industry where it's the default standard and you'd better use it to stay alive".

Innovation is being so far ahead that everyone else has to fall back to saying why your design is too radically different for conservative businesses to buy while, all the while knowing that they're going to be playing catch up for years.

Apple had that in 1984 with Macintosh.
Apple had that in 1985 with LaserWriter and AppleTalk.

But that was the last time and that's not innovation, that's tragedy.
