- There is cause of concern.
-
I'm not a fan of protectionism. But there is some concern that the majority of what we do is exported as a commodity. First its manufacturing, then engineering and technical things that don't require any customer to actually see you. We'll be a nation of salesreps and executives and various lying yes-men. With the rest of us, the vast majority, doing middling work for meager pay. Like I'm doing now

I'm not saying that is going to happen. But I can see why that fear is there. Couple comments on what you said however.
"If these were cars and someone was selling them at 1/10th the price..."
Car prices have rediculous margins. They've been vastly overpriced since the 70's when the US autmotive industry was getting creamed by Japan's because they made fuel efficient cars. The government stepped in and made an agreement with Japaneese automakers to limit sales in the US. Cars becoming scarce their prices went up. US makers finally having a chance to make fuel effecient cars raised their prices to the same level. I love protectionism at work. Helps business hurts customer.
"Of greater concern, methinks, is an American president who is letting religious conviction interfere in critical areas of new technology (biotech)."
I absolutely and totally agree. And a completely misrepresented situation at that. It is totally rediculous. It is like saying you can't do an autopsy because the corpse's hair is still growing. - Posted by: Zinoron Posted on: 06/02/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
