You can still get paid...
No company should be allowed to control the guts of the computer (the operating system). That software should ALWAYS be free, open sources and from multiple sources that conform to strict interface standards. The ONLY reason Microsoft is still in business is because they control the freakin' world with their monopoly on the O/S.

Currently, Microsoft decides what my computer can do and cannot do. They decide how much it is going to cost me to run that computer. They decide how much of my personal information their software collects and sends to their computers. I have nothing to say about it and Microsoft doesn't care what I think (nor do they have to since they are a monopoly). Excuse me for saying so but that SUCKS!!

To that end, Linux or other similar softwares are the only answer. You should still get paid for your work but if you start jerking me around ala' Microsoft, I should ALWAYS be able to get a different piece of software without needing to change anything else about my computer. I should also be able to decide what software is installed on my computer and what isn't. We aren't anywhere near that level of control and if Microsoft has their way, it's just going to get worse.

>>I like to code. It's great. But I like to get paid for it as well...<<
