Actually, he is right
The purpose of a "photograph," or any picture, image is to be viewed. You are fooling yourself if you believe that there is any advantage, to that purpose, for a RAW image format. Incidentally, all compressed images are converted to a "RAW" representation when they are loaded into the machine - the picture, if compressed, is uncompressed and converted to RGB or CYMK color spaces depending on the intended destination format (display or print). CCD imagers create RGB (additive color) data from the detector array usually using a Bayer filter. This filter actually distorts the color map, especially if there are fast color gradients, as each color plane samples only a part of the image. A high end camera with three separate CCDs overcomes this, but these photographers use Macs. Yes it's true. They don't have time for Windows crap. But I digress.

Am I to believe that all cameras delivering RAW data formats use 3 CCDs as this is the ONLY way that any camera will produce superior image quality? Am I to believe that a proprietary RAW format will be superior to, say, a TIFF format that can render arbitrary resolutions with 24 bits per plane and lossless storage formats? Am I to beleive that RAW data formats with some type of "white balance" data will give superior color accuracy when the camera will tend to make anything that saturates the camera "white" while distorting the rest of the color tones?

Answer: no. There is no way you can convince me that "RAW" formats can deliver better resolution or color accuracy than TIFF. Also, there is no way that you can convince me that "RAW" data storage will provide superior editing capabilities when all photo editing software must convert the image into full resolution color space to be able to operate upon it. Propietary RAW image formats are just another way to separate a sucker from his money. MS, the epitome of P.T. Barnum, recognizes this to.

BTW, you seem to disparage this guy because he is "with" the print industry. Where would the "Professional" photographer be if there was no "Print" industry to render and distribute his work. I guess he would need to by a lot of ink jet ink - LOL
