- Other reasons for minimal laptopping
-
With so many hard-wired or machine-specific parts, scalability, upgradability and servicability are all miserably hopeless. Can be worse than servicing an aging Compaq oe e-machine
With just one physical hard drive, local backup is inconvenient and/or expensive.
Dinky and lame BIOS' limit configurability and invite device conflicts.
"Touchpads" and the like are poor substitutes for and poor coexistants with mice.
Laptop batteries degrade quickly to uselessness within months of regular use. Replacements aren't cheap.
One drop...or one misplacement...and kiss your $1800 g'bye. Let's forget "portability".
All that said, a laptop is GREAT as a secondary and quite stationary computer in the living room...networked to a REAL computer...and maybe pumping mp3's from thruout the household into your main entertainment center. - Posted by: moiety Posted on: 05/31/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
