The beatings will continue until morale improves

The curse of the next income tax bracket. If you are in the high end of an income tax bracket and get a raise to put you in the low end of the next income tax bracket you will take home less money.

As for OT it is optional in the US. But if you turn it down you are looked over for any advancement. You will be good for merit raises and get a t-shirt for a Xmas bonus. What are you going to do if management decides to go all salary? Salary is exempt from the 40 hour work week.

The difference between a job and a career is 60 hours a week.
