But maybe you just don't understand the concept of take home pay.

Ok lets say you make $2000 on pay cheque and keep $1200. This amount in the payroll system is configured exactly to the penny for tax deductions. Then you go and put in 40 hours of over time and $1500 only to have that taxed as though you make that every cheque year round. Then they ding you an you take home $1150 that pay cheque. But then about September you max out your CPP and IE premiums and you take home jumps $1380 pay cheque and at tax time you get a refund of an extra $1000. This happens because payroll clerks don't want to take the time to do it right.
