If you got paid what is required by law
Overtime just means more taxes. I don't know what US taxes are like but up here in Canada if you work overtime you can actually make less take home money after taxes when getting paid at 1.5 times the hourly rate. Of course the employer can pay you properly if thier payroll clerks are up to the task otherwise you wait for the end of the year for a tax refund. That's a bonus but it makes the OT seem like hell!

Don't you have laws in the US that state OT is optional and you have to agree to it? An employer here in Canada can't force you do overtime though that doesn't mean squat if you have people waiting in the wings to replace you.
