Complexity inherent in XML
XML may, arguably, be useful for data exchange. These people seem to be using it for data management for which it is profoundly ill suited.

The piling on of new methods and languages is strongly reminiscent of the complexities of old style hierarchical databases which were largely superceded by SQL databases in the eighties and nineties. XML as data management is making the same nasty mistake all over again. It is in short a recipe for inflexibility and inconsistency.
