Honestly Bitty, there's more to business than immediate monetary gain. Sun may be shuffled out of the computing world altogether if they don't change their tune. Sun is just picking up a cue from IBM. Remember IBM? That company that used to be an antitrust scourge that is now practically the farling of the OSS community? How did they change their image? They cozied up to the OSS community! Now let ask: is IBM doing financially well nowadays? There's your answer as to what benefit this poses to Sun.
