Greatest strength?
So does that mean that software patents are now a GOOD thing again? Should all open-source businesses run out and acquire as many software patents as they can? Even though software patents are (according to many here) inherently bad?

From what I've read, the only way the IBM (and now Sun) patents can be a strength is that they can be used as deterrents or weapons against other companies that might attempt to threaten open source with software patents. But, isn't that using software patents in EXACTLY the same way that led to the call for the elimination of software patents in the first place? Are you now advocating the Mutually Assured Destruction concept?
