Interesting news, but 'post-processed' to confuse the reader
So SUN realized that if develpers have access to the Solaris's source, they can try to leverage to
1) built better applications,
2) extend the Solaris kernel/utilities features, and
3) hopefully built new features to fit their particular needs or simply make the kernel more efficient.

The real winner is when Linux apps run side-by-side with native solaris apps without any particular effort. One issue here is the Pthreads infrastructure and SMP (ccUMA/ccNUMA) Solaris/Linux integration.

Developers will benefit by writing for a true POSIX platform (which Soloaris ALREADY IS) and the users can leverage the vast array of Linux utilities.

Unfortuntately, this 'article' instead of pointing out the potential benefits to all, starts a confused 'argument' where some people inject rather negative comments which are NOT related to the potential benefits from this move.
