...And Elixir is a product for the average user?
Microsoft's main market is the non-techie average computer user.
How many Average home users do you think will use Elixir? How many peple in an average 2,000+ Enterprise will require training on Elixir or ever touch the program short of looking up an e-Maill address?

Elixir is not for the average home or business user. It is for the ERP and CRM users that usually use Peoplesoft, Siebel, Oracle, SAP, etc.

Now if they force these users to upgrade their Office to MSO2k3 or MSO v 12 then all the other MSO users within the Enterprise would have to upgrade and possibly their vendors and clients and anyone who wishes to share docs with them.

Take a University, for example, that chooses Elixir. All the students may now need the latest MSO and then all their friends would too.

It is another great MS marketing ploy that affects the average user but the market for Elixir is not the average user.
