Put a fork in it!
Sun is one of those companies responsible for the forking and unavailability of UNIX. Linux would not have existed, had Sun (and others) come up with a single UNIX - and made it available to hobbists. I wanted UNIX at home for many years, but to no avail - no one offered it! This was another part of the "perfect storm" that propelled Windoze to prominance. Having Sun open-source their OS flies in the face of what Linux is all about - the code is MINE and NOT anyone else's, and I can do with it WHAT I WANT.

Will the two mix well? I don't know. The Solaris Kernel is by far a more refined and "better" kernel than Linux has, but all the rest is same-old same-old. Using the Solaris kernel in a Linux distro would be the ultimate - which is why Sun forbids it . . .
