You doom and gloom doesn't make sense.
Sure the OS will become open source. Does that mean and end to Microsoft? Not at all. It frees Microsoft to work proprietary software that runs on say BSD or Linux. Now Microsoft doesn't like the idea because they like having control. Control means guaranteed profits.
Proprietary software will adjust and grow. Making open source software work for them.
What you fear is coming but not from Open Source. It will come from the likes of Microsoft and IBM where you buy hardware that writes the software as you need it for an exact purpose. Then you will see far less need for programmers beyond the few that create this wonder.
