I think that's where part of the problem lies
Basically what's going on here is MS is going out of their way to make things easier and prettier for a programmer while forgetting about the end users needs. If MS put half as much effort improving quality of the actual output of their compilers as they did to its interface then you wouldn't have so many ABMers.

I for one do appreciate MS's efforts in helping us non-programmers put together a custom application with little or no programming knowledge (I'm talking about Access of course). Indeed Access, to me anyway, is about the only MS application out there worth its price. But when you consider the baggage Access comes with (you need Windows and the rest of Office to get the full effect, both of which are far buggier than any software of that price should be), you still wind up hoping for non-MS alternatives.

(OOo's database interface is getting there, but it's not there yet.)

So maybe if Longhorn works out the way MS promises, the reasons for the complaints will go away. Of course people will still complain, out of either habit or lack of trust (releasing shoddy products year after year will result in major loss of trust) but over time the complaining will die down to mere noise level. That's IF Longhorn works out.
