I've used both Microsoft IDE's and Unix Makefiles. Now, maybe there are some things you can do with a Makefile that you can't with the IDE. But, makefiles are a PAIN in the butt. I avoid them when I can. Microsoft's development environment is first class, and the standard to which all others are to be compared. Go look at the amateurish IDE compilers Sun and HP sell for Unix systems. Their ease of use is an oxymoron. We should just all admit that MS makes an excellent development environment, and we're just nitpicking. There's always problems, both with Makefiles and IDE's. So, wake up.
