Do you notice you have to start paying more & more for OSS?
So the question becomes, can the OSS model that relies increasingly on services (that you have to pay for) compete with the high volume, low cost proprietary software model? You will probably notice that when you acquire OSS through these guys, you are going to have to pay money up front. How is this different from proprietary software as far as cost is concerned? And if you want to reconfigure your software after you have acquired it, OSS is usually more complicated than proprietary software, requiring you to be constantly relying on these guys for help, rather than being able to do it yourself. The fact of the matter is the more OSS becomes professional, the more people are going to have to pay for it, further increasing its cost over proprietary software. Isn?t that a riot: free software is becoming much more expensive than proprietary software.
