Hoping aside, a bit of kibitzing
I agree with your main point, but many might fail to arrive at your conclusion because of the tortuous route you have taken to get there.

ZDNet continues its policy of wishful thinking about the defeat of Microsoft.

Let's see, the number one home of Microsoft zealotry engages in "wishful thinking" about the defeat of Microsoft? Not quite in this millenium! Just how many readers got past that one?

The only sensible part is, there is no browser market. Mozilla/Firefox have, the last I heard, produced a reduction in IE share within any reasonable margin of error. In other words, not at all. (Emphasis added)

Well, 1% per month since November of last year, projected, leads to parity in another 30 months or so. Of course that kind of projection is faulty, because we start running into demographic barriers, like those that don't know there is such thing as a browser, or those that would be terrified at the prospect of downloading or changing defaults, but "not at all"? Come on!

Main point, it doesn't make much sense for Google to venture into the browser market, but the unpersuaded reader (presumably your target) might not have the patience to stick it through to the bottom line.
