Sadly you are correct on some points. Google has a lot of resources already to do what you are talking about. Google can do the local search without problems, doing a small scale engine for a local pc based off their web search engine. They own Picasa (photo album program), so combine that with a small scale search engine and you can probably got some good features. Probably throw some metadata into the mix as thats the new buzzword for searching nowadays. The web browser, well if the rumors are true and they are working on a "gbrowser" or "googlezilla" then they have that covered. The GooglePC and GoogleOS ain't far from the truth either. Think about it, they already sell their Google appliance which is a search engine in a box. Its running an OS of some sort on hardware of some sort, and functions as a search engine, so they can definitely cook up a PC without problems. Combine them together and Google can make an all in 1 solution.
