I don't fully agree
Are you saying there are simply no worthwhile .net apps? If this is the case, then certainly the entire framework can be ignored. But if there is a .net app out there worthy of enterprise consideration, then this might provide an interim solution while the app is upgraded for permanent deployment.

I saw a demo of an anologous product last week, name of Cicero. It provides a desktop bus, permitting concurrent access to dissimilar apps, from 3270 to full web apps. This could potentially enable us to break the stovepipes and provide the knowledge worker an interim workflow system while the next generation portals are in development.

Don't dismiss the notion of an interim solution out of hand. If you can get your servers converted and harmonized, then use a product like this to bridge your legacy apps to the full J2EE environment, you might just have something.
