what MS should do vs what MS does do...
i agree on the mono thing. Personally, i think clinging onto the Windows platform has handy capped MS.
MS should go to software services and put less focus on the reliance on Windows. Sure they will lose the advantages of their desktop lock-in, but in the long run, it will make the rest of their products much more pervasive.
