It doesn't make sense
You would think that Microsoft would welcome Mono. After all, Sun has shown that the company retaining stewardship of a product, even if the product is cross-platform, still manages to be a major player in the field and can even continue to make money from it (although not as much as from a completely closed product). Microsoft should be happy that it's tools are being used, even on non-Windows platforms. What better way to maintain its ubiquitousness?
