Joe, I am ...
And the reason is that Linux still lacks many of the amenities of high end Unix and IN OTHER areas lacks amenities provided by high end Windows. Some people get deluded by the fact that Linux is used for things like super computing. But that is really based on deriving a high end system by tying together a lot of low end units in a cluster. Even running on a mainframe, Linux lacks the capabilities and overall robustness of say AIX. And Linux can't even begin to touch the capabilities built into high end Sparc hardware. Don't get me wrong. I am not trying to put down Linux at all, and in many cases Linux would be the 'best choice' solution. AND Linux is still moving up and will continue to move up as it evolves. But it is still low end compared to high end Unix and high end Windows. The bottom line is that MS has literally force Windows upward at a frenetic pace by throwing unlimited amounts of cash at the project. BUT, having said that, I will hasten to add that high end Windows is still not even close to catching up with high end Unix in many areas. But, remember, Windows has other advantages, like a huge embedded software base which includes business applications that are crying out for extremely high end deployment. And Windows is nearly at the threshold of delivering that performance. The challenge for Linux (and Unix) is to get those ISVs to port to the Unix side so that Unix (and eventually Linux) can get a shot at competing with Windows as Windows moves up in terms of hardware capability.
