All a matter of interpretation
The zealots of that group will have a fit, sure. That's because in their minds they think of the negatives of the Windows platform (of which there are plenty) that they are trying to escape from. There are positives from the Windows platform that Linux could strive to be more like, but they don't like to admit that.

Obviously Solaris has a lot of technical advantages over Linux. There are also some advantages in its licensing scheme with regards to proprietary developers, which you've always been quick to point out. But in the Unix arena Linux has surpassed Solaris in marketshare, and there are reasons for that which are directly related to its licensing scheme. Software development is about even steven on each platform, both being Unix-type platforms the skillset is the same. However Linux has a major advantage in hardware support because of its openness.

Solaris is more open now, so it can now begin to woo hardware developers into writing drivers for their system the way Linux has managed, and I'm sure that's a major part of Sun's plans. However Linux has had a long head start, and because of that the software developers have swung their allegiance to Linux as well. Not that most Linux software isn't already ported to Solaris, because it is, but there are gaps and Solaris readiness would naturally be less important than Linux readiness considering the marketshare.

I wish Sun well, and if the Gentoo Solaris project matures enough I may well give it a test spin (sorry but I like having the Portage crutch).
