There was once a time when "nobody ever got fired for buying IBM" no matter how much more expensive it was. It was the principle that powered IBM's monopoly. Empires always fall.


We're in the sunset of "nobody ever got fired for buying Microsoft" today. I'd be surprised if there is one company in the Fortune 500 not using GNU/Linux (or xBSD) for some function too critical to risk on Microsoft. If you insisted on exposing an MSFT box to the Internet on a routable IPA, on my network, you wouldn't be working in my IT dept any more.


It's happening faster overseas than in the US.
