"This isn't right. This isn't even wrong" [W. Pauli]
Loverock (aka The Global Village Idiot) is trying to misdirect and deceive everyone (again!).

1. The reason the servers are slow is because it is HUGELY popular and there are a lot of people downloading it. Having said that, I was able to download it at 400+ KBytes/second;
2. "Linux is the perfect example of how a bunch of patches cannot make an OS" ?? what??? Linux is an OS modelled on UNIX and which runs applications. I would say this comment would more apply to Patch-Tuesday Windows;
3. "... linux developers ... give up on the inevitable..?" The inevitable is that Linux (and not just though Ubuntu, but other distributions like dreamlinux) is a product that installs and works with LESS pain than XP or Vista. Linux, as Balmer himself has said, IS a Windows competitor AND a threat to the Microsoft monopoly.
4. "is this version going to come complete with kernel panics and segfaults..." I have been run Linux for nearly a year with no errors. This is in contrast to my XP installation which, at some point in May last year, decided to BSOD at some random point every 3-4 days - even after a re-installation. According to MS the error was in the "hardware" - the same hardware that run Linux without fault from May until now after I ditched XP. Loverock, my experience with segment faults and dumps is with Windows, NOT with Linux;
5. "Gentlemen, start your compilers" PLU-LEEZ. Ubuntu comes with an update manager and the Synaptic Package Manager. This means when I click a package it not only downloads it, but its dependent packages as well.

As for the quip about checking version numbers and downloading/compiling the source... ... to upgrade from Ubuntu 6.10 to 7.04, which I did in less than an hour, was simply a matter of clicking "upgrade to Ubuntu 7.04" from the package manager. The software was downloaded and installed automatically. The upgrade, which I am using now, was PAINLESS - unlike my friend's experience with upgrading from XP to Vista.

Loverock - I find it hard to believe you believe what you have written. I know you know it's disinformation and lies; and yet you still post it. I can only imagine you are imperfectly practising the art of the Big Lie.

*sigh*
