Linux is a kernel, which can be used in Desktop Operating Systems like Ubuntu and Suse Linux Enterprise Desktop etc...

Linux is so flexible that it can also be compiled as a realtime kernel, which is then used in a realtime OS.

this shows that linux is very flexible, and skills acquired in one domain can be used in another...
