AMD admittedly is far behind in the compiler race
I spoke with AMD, and they blame some of the benchmarks on their compilers. They admit it's their own fault and they're going to work harder at the compilers.

By the way, C++ is still used for the good stuff like uTorrent. http://blogs.zdnet.com/Ou/?p=153. When someone says JRE or Java, I run from the massive bloat and instability monster.
