I think .Net is great, it just wasn't clearly explained
I had no idea what it was after reading page after page of management speak.
It turned out it's similar to java.
It has some slight advantages over Sun runtime java in that you have the concept of unmanaged code that executes quicker (but less securely), but fundamentally it's a much cleaner ABI than win32 or MFC.
In addition, as SOAP/XML/Unicode are the order of the day, everything is built with this in mind.
I don't think I've ever seen any clear description of .net by microsoft. Shame because it's good. (not warranting the earth shattering, no-one has ever done this before claptrap however).
