think about end-user productivity
Our staff would be capable of managing those separate entities efficiently and effectively. We already have file sharing alternatives and some instances of forum apps running as pilots in our intranet, with minimal support, sparse funding, and enthusiastic users. If the intuitiveness (and evolutionary success/commonality in the public sector) of a tool is considered in selection criteria, ?retraining? works itself out. No FUD here . . . the history behind that acronym is amusing and relevant to a company in this topic.

However, Notes is our corp. direction, so it will always prevail (i.e. be mandated) as the dominant tool used for all areas of collaboration. Superior alternatives with the end-user in mind, proposed or piloted, inevitably are killed off by the Notes empire. Unfortunately, the people who dictate corp. direction overlook the productivity loss of using a lacking jack-of-all-trades tool to address all areas of collaboration. The cost of that loss is difficult to quantify, yet very real. We save in one area (infrastructure); but pay in another (end user productivity). And the pay rates of our end-users are not low.
