- You make a very good point....
- It's likely that a big reason Sun is deciding to do this is that it now sees Mono as a competitive threat to Java, in that there's an open-source implementation of .Net that could gain a heavy following on *nix platforms, traditionally Sun's stronghold. In order to ensure Java remains dominant there, and spreading elsewhere, Sun now sees the need to make Java the definitively open and open-source VM environment.
