Shades of OS/2 Warp
This sounds like an expansion of the dedicated virtual Win-OS2 boxes in OS/2 Warp, v3.0 and later. In these a bad Win 3.1 or 3.0 application crashed the box not the OS. This was available in 1994 for the users of OS/2.

If nothing else, this use in OS/2 should prevent additional patents based on prior art.
