It is a much bigger deal than you believe
SUN was the first to provide the 8-way core chip. It is not a simple task as you can see, since intel has been trying to muli-core its chips for quite some time now with very little success. Where is the Itanium-2 multicore? Mutlicore xeons / P4? Who cares...I don't.

There are Linux kernels that run on high processor count systems. The question is how close is Linux to support a 32-way SMP in the T1 chip.

It is remarkable that little SUN can cut it, while Intel with 20 times the h/w development resources can only try to immitate AMD.

It is a bigger deal than you seem to believe.
