Don't read much, do ya Roger?
Got to get out of that lab sometime, maybe read a real newspaper or two....

Toyota Nissan BMW build cars in the US. News? That they pay as well as or better than Detroit for line jobs. News? Or that they have recruiting going on for line workers in Detroit for their expanding plants. News? That Germany considers the US a wonderful place to build cars as it pays LESS for MORE productivity than in Germany? News?

All the boo hoo about tech jobs going overseas got nixed by studies a year ago. Numbers were so small to be insignificant - even for call center positions. Yes people lost jobs, but other jobs were created to fill those slots. A less than 5% unemployment puts that canard to the trash can it belongs into (and no, there are no 'hidden' numbers from people giving up and not finding jobs - those numbers came out too - oh, sorry, that was financial news.....).

Open Source sounds like the idea shopped around in the late 90's about a 'new economy'. And of course that bubble burst.

It was due to that bubble that kids right out of school, who knew how to write some HTML were getting paid way beyond their skill level, but there was a lot of money to throw around. And of course there was a salary adjustment when the bubble burst. But gosh Roger - see the news lately? All IT jobs are gaining, in numbers and in salary levels. Just like it has happened a number of other times in the past.

This is a boom bust industry - not as bad as aerospace as the job sources are far more diverse than a few airlines and national defense. But when new technology (or irrational scares like Y2K or any other big need) comes along, there are booms. Followed by adjustments.
