Because,
I do not want an operating system that requires integration of an application before any of the applications can be tried. It should only be necessary to place the application into its own directory in order to run it. In this mode, the application should be prevented from modifying any system attributes or any system or other files on the computer. Linux fails here also. OS/2 Warp did not fail here.

?Desktop Linux lacks a champion with resources and an expectation of substantial profits.? And of course this is as it should be. Computers should be a tool for the user, not an end in themselves. Which answers you r question; ?Why the Linux desktop advocacy, then, if companies are not expecting to make money from success??
