Is Java getting better with age?

Java is not difficult; but, scripting languages are easier: Java is way easier to deal with as compared to C++; however, PHP is way easier as compared to Java. Most users that claim that Java is difficult are [PHP, Perl, Ruby] users. My only complaint about Java has always been the development environment.
