You can write stuff in java, and compile native. Sun's JDK is not the only saloon in town.
(your comments seem to indicate it is).

I look forward to a time when a lot of Linux (distro package) development is compiled up in gcj not gcc.
I think the potential exploits will become much smaller.
Like for example ftp server, ssh server, smtp server and so on.
