Yes it is. No it is not
The more it's tested the better it does it's thing. The more it's used the more we know how to do things better with Java.

For the journalist Java is plain old and has turned useless.
Lemme explain it.
Journalists need "trendy" technologies to do their job and Java is not "trendy" any more. It's like COBOL, an excellent technology was designed by a smart woman before 1960 that is still driving maybe your bank or your gov agencies or your health provider or your you-name-it as long as it runs in big iron.
Java is making it: it's replacing COBOL as the really-solid tool for really-big applications that people expects not to fail, never.
This doesn't make headlines: "Bank XXX to build a system in Java". But I remember to have read such stuff by 1997 because it was exciting news then.

There is a breed of heavy-duty professional developers that when confronted with "new" tecnologies they just wait. These are the people who make the systems that keep the world ticking.
They have adopted java, not in the first night.
