That all sounds so spiffy.

So, your experience was that the process took years. So, with that in mind, why should IBM leap in now when they don't really need to, if it is going to take years.

Also, is Microsoft really likely to give up their IPR over this? I am pretty certain they have never ever ceded "their rights" to anyone, unless a court has found against them and forced them to pay up etc.

I think you are overly sugar coating how things will work out here.
