You have it sadly backwards
People with faith in God tend to have better work ethics and character. There's a sense of accountability that many youth are lacking. Step back and look at it objectively. What percentage of our youth are brought up going to church regularly now? How many are troubled? Compare that to 50 or 100 years ago. Now look at the corporate leaders in this country. All the accounting scandals, the focus on short-term profits. If you have faith and a long-term view, you're not going to be running a company the way many are run now. We've never had as much atheistic and anti-Judeo-Christian fervor in this country as we now have. And the results are clear. Take faith and character education out of our kids lives, and we're left with a generation looking for thrills and highs. Many end up with ruined lives. Others will become the next generation of self-worthy corporate greed-mongers. Faith is not the problem. It is the answer. It teaches you to think outside yourself, that you're not your own, and that you'd better live by some "oughts and ought nots" for which you will be accountable.

Now for the counter-examples. Look throughout history at those who were leaders in science, and you'll find that many if not most were people of great faith. Some few examples include Gregor Mendel, Louis Pasteur, and how about this one for relevance to this forum: Donald Knuth, arguably the greatest computer scientist living.
