Death for Linux
"This is all but the death knell for Linux as we know it."

Oh bullshirt! Linux is way too entrenched and loved and there are hordes of people working on it for free.

All this fearmongering and darkwhistling is wasted, because even if there is infringement, it will only serve to harden Linux's position because any offending code will be removed and Linux will continue on from there.

What is anybody in the world going to do about infringement besides say that offending code needs to be removed? Are they going to be able to say that all of Linux can't be used because of some offending code?

Even if someone could do something like that, what are they going to do about millions of people who have the source on cds at home, that cleaned up distros can be made from? Are they going to go house to house confiscating source cds?

Yea, OK, some companies that use Linux that are big enough for SCO to go after may suffer if SCO ends up with any substantiation, and Linux will get a perceptual black eye if that happens.

Even so, Linux will at least eventually be unencumbered one way or another, and there will always be CTOs that can show their bean counters the value of Linux.

The ONLY thing that is going to be the death of Linux is something that is better, easier and more free, more fun, and less ms that comes along someday.

Until then, Linux will continue to be as long as nerds have computers. Period.
