Java is simple...

This article is stating truth. Java in and of itself is not a difficult languge, but there are a lot of extentions and frameworks that make learning it harder than PHP for simple projects. EJB and other aspects of J2EE are complicated. However, striaght web development with JSP is no harder than PHP. In fact, I think that JSP is easier due to the fact that there are much better IDE's and tools for JSP over PHP.

Regardless, all of the heavy lifting by any serious web application is going to be done by Java. This is why Java was chosen for eBay, and Gmail, and eTrade, and VerizonWirless, and Walmart, Delta, and thousands of others.

PHP is easy, but it is limited.
