- Here's a Crazier thought...
-
How about their competitors get competitive. The only one who seems to be fighting for market share that have a competitive price would be Open Source guys.
Novell has had years to drop their price to a competitive level to beat Microsoft, but they still maintain a higher dollar amount for their netware product.
Word Perfect used to be a 300 dollar word processor. Microsoft Office costs what? $600 for the Professional Suite?
Lotus Notes/Domino is outrageous in price compared to Microsoft Exchange Server.
Remember Cerious Software's Thumbs Application that thumbnailed all the pictures for a website and managed them for $70. Now Microsoft Licensed the software and included it in the core of Windows XP. Same was done with WinZip.
The whole IE Brawl was brought about because Netscape wanted to charge for their web browser, but couldn't compete because Microsoft used thier Market dominance to bundle Internet Explorer with Windows, undercutting the viability of a market for selling web browsers. This being said, Opera still continues to try and compete.
Software Assurance was a Scam to get money out of customers, and for the idiots that fell for it, good for them. However, We are still waiting for SQL Server 2005, Office 2006, Windows Vista, and I am sure several other products along the way that will cause this program to lose money.
Back to the point that I was trying to make though. Microsoft has for the longest time been the cheapest product. Until FLOSS came along.
So before you go griping about how Microsoft managed to get an iron gripe on the world, perhaps you should go take a trip down to the local Wal-mart and look and the variety of people that put companies like Microsoft and Wal-mart in the places they are.
All these two companies did was provide crap for a cheaper price than quality, and now these two companies are the most powerful in the world.
So my crazier thought would be, "Stop buying crap!!!" - Posted by: nucrash Posted on: 09/16/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
