When you have a hammer, everything starts looking like a nail, eh?
When the tool does the job, there's nothing wrong with using it wink. I personally actually use OpenOffice.org because I'm a student, and don't need to do much more than write reports and essays for classes. OpenOffice.org does that very well.

And I do use a Notepad equivalent (EditPad lite) for editing pure text or for the occasional archaic programming language not supported by major IDEs.

Use the tool that works the best for the job at hand. That's my philosophy.

If I want to do some quick text editing, I use an app that loads quickly and does not break the text into pages.

If I want to create an essay, then I use an app that supports stuff like spell checking, page numbering, automatic paragraph indentation, etc.

It all depends on what I'm doing. Generally, I look for what suits my needs, not what's currently hot & popular.

If I want to be trendy, I'll buy new clothes and a new car.
